Every year, the association gives scholarships to
deserving high school Filipino-American senior students
from selected North County High Schools, who want
to pursue college education. Several fund-raising
activities, spearheaded by the FIL-AM Scholarship
Committee, are carried out to raise money solely for
this purpose.
This year, five (5) high school FIL-AM graduates are
receiving $1,000 for the first prize, $500 for the
second prize, $300 for the third prize and $100 each
for the fourth and fifth prize. The presentation and
awarding of scholarship was held during the 9th Annual
Filipino Cultural Day celebration at the Oceanside
Civic Center.
Five
(5) deserving FIL-AM scholars received their cash
awards on June 12, 2010 from the association - (left
to right) FIL-AM Scholarship Committee composed of
Asst. Sec. Anthony Fulmore, Dir. Dee Weber, Nelly
Taguba, 4th placer Audrey Foronda, 5th placer Isaiah
Luzon, 3rd placer Oliver Hamto, 2nd placer Alexandra
Tuazon, 1st placer Wade Licup, and FIL-AM Pres. Rica
Derosier.

first $100 recipient is ISAIAH C. LUZON.
Isaiah
is attending Vista High School and is going to pursue
a degree in the medical field. He will pursue his
higher education at Miracosta College majoring in
Biology. He participates in football, belongs to Pacific
Islander Club, wrestling team and received honors
form SD Union Tribune all academic team as well as
Counselors Academic Honor Role.
The
2nd scholarship recipient of $100 is AUDREY C. FORONDA.
Audrey attends Mission Hills High School in San Marcos.
She is going to pursue her higher education at the
University of California Los Angeles majoring in Neuroscience.
She has received an outstanding Community Service
Award, Advanced Placement Scholar Award, San Diego
Union Tribune All-Academic Team award, was a Treasurer
of California Scholarship Federation, etc.
She
is very active in her sports and is member National
Honor Society etc..

3rd
place winner, OLIVER MARI HAMTO, recipient of $300
scholarship.
Oliver
attends El Camino High School and will pursue his
higher education In Stanford University majoring in
Chemistry.
He
is an AP scholar, a Chemistry Olympiad, and was a
founder/president of the American Chemical Society
(ChemClub) of El Camino. He actively involved in school,
his church and even helped raise funds for house-building
efforts in Mexico.

2nd
place winner ALEXANDRA TUAZON, recipient of $500 scholarship.
Alexandra
attends Fallbrook High School and will pursue her
higher education at The Art Intstitute of California
this fall to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Fashion
Management and Marketing. She was in Advanced Placement
Chemistry as well as Music. She is the Human Relations
Officer, Blood Drive Coordinator, Prom Committee member/adviser,
link crew leader. She a very active Fil-Am volunteer.

1st
place winner WADE LICUP is the recipient $1,000 scholarship.
Wade
attended Army and Navy Academy and will be pursuing
his Bachelors Degree majoring in Biology at
Pepperdine University. He has a GPA of 4.3 and is
class valedictorian. He is very involved, not just
in school, but in the community.
He
is the vice president of California Scholarship Federation
from 2007 to 2010, member of the National Honor Society,
a captain of his varsity Tennis, a member of the marching
band and is a senior woodwind player, etc. Once a
month, he visits the home for the aged and plays piano
for them. He has helped feed the homeless, provided
entertainment for them by playing piano and singing
songs and also helped out in the small shelter renovation.
He also helped raised funds for his school and church
by participating in the 5k run. He has gone on Mexico
Mission trip where he helped administer basic immunity
shots, played with the children and youth, etc.
