50th
GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF WARNER AND VP MELY SIVAGE
On
July 15, 1959, Warner and VP Mely Sivage had their
wedding vows and promised to live with each other
for the rest of their lives. They celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary at Staff NCO in Camp
Pendleton, California, with their families, loved
ones, friends and FIL-AM members. It was a day
to remember as slides of pictures were shown to
reminisce the 50 golden years that passed and
the celebration was made more enjoyable with lively
entertainment and dancing for hours.

Director Zucette Lumabas was inducted as
President of Sea Lions Club of Oceanside
on July 1, 2009 at the China Star Buffet
Restaurant in Oceanside. FIL-AM Pres. Rica
(not in the picture) was also inducted as
club's treasurer.

FIL-AM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM NEWS
On
June 6, 2009, during the 8th Annual Filipino
Cultural Celebration, the FIL-AM scholars
were presented and awarded with their cash
prizes (From L to R) Jewel Pereyra, 3rd
prize winner of $200.00, Evelyn Espiritu,
2nd prize winner received $300.00 and Cristine
Sidela, 1st prize awardee of $500.00.
The
scholarship comittee, composed of Dee Weber,
Anthony Fulmore and Nelly Taguba, had spearheaded
two fund-raising events - Carwash on March
21st and Bowl-a-thon on April 18th, wherein
all proceeds will go to the FIL-AM scholarship
funds. Every year, the association gives
cash awards to deserving FIL-AM senior high
school students from North San Diego County
to help them in their college expenses.
Deadline to submit applications will be
on May 8th and the winners will be announced
on June 6th during the FIL-AM Annual Fiesta
at the Oceanside Civic Center. Application
forms can be downloaded on the homepage.
FIL-AM
officers and volunteers worked hand in hand
to raise funds for the FIL-AM scholarship
program by washing cars on March 21st from
7:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
On April 18th from 1:00-4:00 pm, BOWL-A-THON,
another FIL-AM Scholarship fund-raising
event, was held in Camp Pendleton Bowling
Center in Oceanside, CA.
On
June 3rd, during the Oceanside Council Meeting
at the Oceanside City Hall, nine (9) FIL-AM
girls and boys did the Pledge of Allegiance
before the Council Meeting starts and opportunity
was given to promote the June 6th Annual
Filipino Cultural Association by the organizers
- Fil-Am Cultural Association of North San
Diego County, through its representative,
Sec. Belle Limoge, and the Oceanside Public
Library Staff headed by Deborah Polich.

JOINS THE CITY OF OCEANSIDE DIVERSITY FAIR
ON MAY 6, 2009
The
Association was given an opportunity to
join the 2009 City of Oceanside Diversity
Fair during the City of Oceanside Employee
Recognition event at the Beach Community
Center in Oceanside, California on May 6th.
FIL-AM was given a booth to showcase our
Filipino products and culture. FIL-AM members
and officers who attended are Pres. Rica,
VP Mely, Sec. Belle, Auditor Enri, Dirs.

On
May 3rd, at the Luiseno Park in Vandegrift
Blvd., Oceanside, CA, FIL-AM officers and
members, especially the Little Miss and
Pre-teen candidates and their families gave
a farewell party to Anne Groseclose who
was the chereographer of the Little Miss
and Pre-teen candidates last year. Anne
(in front) is a very active young member
and volunteer of the association who is
leaving the US to settle back to the Philippines.

2008
FIL-AM SCHOLAR JOHN BAUN
This
year's awardee for the annual FIL-AM scholarship
program is John Dominic G. Baun. He graduated
from Mission Hills High School and plans to take
up Human Biology in University of San Diego. John
is a consistent honor student and was involved
with many community organizations like Red Cross,
Filipino Club, among others, and did volunteer
service in Elderly Homes. He was also involved
in varsity tennis team and tutoring club in school;
aside from his active involvement in his community
church.
Every year, the association gives out scholarship
to deserving FIL-AM high school senior students
from schools in north san diego county like El
Camino High School, Rancho Buena Vista High School,
Oceanside High School and many others. This year,
the scholarship grant is $500. The program was
headed by Chair Anthony Fulmore and his committee
members are VP Dee Weber and Dir Nelly Taguba.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2007 AWARDEES
The
Association searched for deserving FIL-AM senior
high school students to award a scholarsphip grant.
Three students were given $250 each to help in
their college education namely, Jaedeleen Felizardo
of Vista High School, Allyson Baylon of El Camino
High School, and Lavinna Arjona from Mission Hills
High in San Marcos. A fourth awardee (runner up)
was Jasmine Ruise from Vista High School. The
recipients were ranked based on their community
service, essay, extra-curricular activities, leadership
and academic excellence. This is a continuing
program of the association so FIL-AM senior students
from EL CAMINO HIGH SCHOOL, VISTA HIGH SCHOOL,
OCEANSIDE HIGH SCHOOL, RANCHO BUENA VISTA HIGH
SCHOOL, GUAJOME PARK ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL, MISSION
HILLS HIGH SCHOOL and other nearby high schools
are invited to participate. This year's scholarship
committee was composed of Chair Dee Weber, ex-Pres.
Marilou Hruby, and Sheryl Dilag.
Two of the four beneficiaries,
JAEDELEEN FELIZARDO AND JASMINE RUISE, received
their grant on Aug. 18, 2007 during the Annual
Picnic of the association. They were awarded by
Pres. Rica, VP Jess and Committee Chair Dee.

AUGUST
BIRTHDAY CELEBRANT - Sec. M. J. PISCO
On
August 30th, Sec. MJ Pisco (seated) celebrated her
birthday with friends and FIL-AM officers and directors.
It was a dinner with great ambience at the Yellow
Coyote Tortilla Factory in Carlsbad followed by a
night of dancing at Crazy Burro in Encinitas. It was
just fun!! fun!! fun!!!
JULY
BIRTHDAY CELEBRANT - Princess ENRI FULMORE
Our
Auditor ENRI FULMORE or fondly called "Princess"
by her husband, ANTHONY, and close friends, celebrated
her birthday with family and friends at the Iron Mike's
SNCO Lounge in Camp Pendleton. It was a night of great
steak, karaoke and dancing.
